What To Avoid When Building An Internet Marketing Business

By Jay Flowers

Whether you are an internet marketing newcomer or have been around the block a few times, you are bound to make some mistakes. However, there are some mistakes that can be costly to you and your business. Fortunately, you can catch yourself prior to compromising your chance with a successful online career.

When coming in from a 9 to 5 job to internet marketing there is far more freedom given to you when you have your own business, which will present a number of challenges. Two of the most difficult things to do are to be focused and manage your time efficiently. To make an immediate impact and to help create an atmosphere that will influence your success with an internet marketing business or any home based business, you have to designate some space that will be solely allocated for your business. In addition, you must reject the urge to watch TV or play with the kids and get your work done.

Secondly...How you spend your time working is vital as well. When first starting out it is critical you take the time to research the market and the competition in your market so that you know who you are targeting and who is currently targeting your marketing. By knowing your target market you can do away with wasting your time marketing to people who are not interested. By knowing your competition you can quickly determine what marketing strategies work and what marketing strategies do not work. The idea here is to embrace the successful strategies and tweak or dismiss the unsuccessful ones. Researching the market and competition should be an on going process during the time you are actively running your business as well.

Once you have researched the market and your competition, you should select an internet marketing opportunity you feel will provide you with the best opportunity to be successful. In doing so, select an opportunity in which you will conform to your income goals and has a mentored training arrangement which will assist you in developing your business. This way you will not have to reinvent the wheel and can take advantage of the experience he or she has to offer.

The next pitfall to avoid with internet marketing is not promoting your business during the time it takes to get your web site up and running. Far too many people wait until their site is completely developed because of the fear that people will not like their site. The problem is by postponing the announcement of your site you are just taking away any potential business you could be getting.

Once you have your website up and running and have visitors coming to your site, customer service needs to be one of your top priorities. It can be easy to forget about the customer with all of the responsibilities you have as a small business owner. But, you have to remember it is the customer that determines whether or not you make any money. Therefore, put the customer at the top of your list.

Lastly, there is no room for passivity in your internet marketing business. Just because you never see your customers and may never talk to them on the phone does not mean you do not have to be social. Internet marketing is as much social as anything else. You have to be willing to go out on the internet and find prospects and build relationships if you want to have success.

You are bound to make mistakes along the way of creating your online business. However, these are some of the more costly mistakes you can avoid in starting your internet marketing business on the right foot.
